Four Signs There’s a Problem with Your Fuel Injectors

Dirty, clogged, or failed fuel injectors are a big problem. You won’t necessarily get a warning light that clues you in that there’s a problem with the fuel injectors, either, so it’s something you’ll have to diagnose in another way. Erik’s Automotive has these tips for you to help you to recognize fuel injector trouble.

Bad Gas Mileage

Gas mileage issues are a sign of a few different types of issues, so it matters what else you’re experiencing along with the decrease in gas mileage. If you’re experiencing bad gas mileage because there’s something going wrong with your car’s fuel injectors, you’re likely also experiencing some of the other symptoms described below. Not sure what your gas mileage is? It’s really a good idea to track it and there are apps available that make it really easy to keep track of regularly.

Tough Starts

Your car relies on having the exact right amount of fuel available exactly when necessary in order to get the engine started. If it doesn’t have that fuel where it needs it, then it’s going to be difficult to start the car’s engine at all. You might have to try more than once to start the car, and once you do get it running you might hear a rough idle.

Not Enough Power

Another big sign of fuel injector issues can be not having enough power from the engine once you’ve got it running. You’ll notice that everything just feels sluggish as you’re driving and the acceleration may seem to hesitate a bit. If any of the fuel injectors have failed, those issues will most likely be consistent. Clogged or dirty injectors may seem to have more intermittent symptoms.

Vibrations When You Accelerate

Something else you could experience could be vibrations when you press the accelerator. That can be frustrating to experience and you might even think that the problem is somewhere else, like in your tires or suspension. In reality, what’s happening is that there isn’t enough fuel in the engine to respond the way that you want it to respond.
