The excitement of getting a new car is an amazing feeling, but it’s even more amazing to know that you’re doing everything that you can to keep your car running perfectly for as long as possible. Erik’s Automotive wants to be your partner in keeping your car around for a long time to come.
Flip through the Owner’s Manual
It’s a dry read, but it’s an important one, especially when you’ve got a new car. Your car’s owner’s manual lays out all of the information that you need in order to make the best decisions about taking care of your car. You don’t have to memorize it at all, but you should definitely look at the pages that list out which services should be done when.
Get Familiar with the Car
After you flip through the manual, you get to the fun part. Make sure that you get to know your new car. One of the best ways to do that is to pop the hood and take a look around. Where’s the coolant reservoir? Is it easy to see the level of coolant? Get used to checking the oil. Take the air pressure in the tires. These are all things you need to be doing routinely, and they’ll help you to get more familiar with your car.
Look at Which Services You Can Handle at the Same Time
What services can you “bundle” together? For instance, if your car’s owner’s manual suggests getting the oil changed and the tires rotated around the same mileage marks, it makes sense to start scheduling those services together at the same time. There may be other ways that you can start doing the same thing, and we can help you to work out a plan.
Commit to Preventative Maintenance
It’s a big commitment to stick with preventative maintenance. Life often gets in the way, and that makes it more difficult to remember to do the next preventative service on the list. That’s why it’s so helpful to have experienced mechanics as part of your team. We can help you to keep track of what’s been done and when, and what needs to happen next.
